Drop-in supports
The International Centre (IC) offers various supports and services for all international students, including:
Drop-in immigration advising (in person)
Monday – Friday, 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. (Atlantic Time)
The IC offers drop-in immigration advising on a first-come, first-served basis. Drop-in sessions are no longer than 30 minutes. If you need to book advising for longer than 30 minutes, . Drop-in sessions are also available on the Sexton Campus (Melda Murray Student Centre) on Wednesdays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Drop-in academic advising (in person)
Thursdays from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. (Atlantic Time)
A Student Success Advisor from the will have a drop-in session at the IC every week. This advisor supports undergraduate students in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Faculty of Science, and first-year Engineering students.
Writing Centre sessions (in person and )
Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (Atlantic Time)
Our International Student Writing Advisor will be at the IC for virtual and in-person writing appointments. .
Ombudsperson (in person)
Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (Atlantic Time)
The is available to all Dalhousie students for free, confidential, impartial, and independent support to help resolve any university-related concerns. Some examples include:
- Providing general resource information and making appropriate referrals
- Identifying and explaining relevant university processes/policies
- Working with students to explore and strategize options for problem-solving
- Listening and providing an objective perspective
Monday Night Meal
Monday Night Meal is a free food program offered to current Dal students by Multifaith Services and the International Centre. Through the winter semester, meals will be served every Monday (with the first event on January 12). Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and food will be served while supplies last. Join us for a delicious meal and a sense of community on campus! Check our Instagram account (@) closer to the day to know more about the menu and the campus partner hosting the meal. International Student Orientation
New Student Orientation for Winter 2026 in Halifax will be held in-person on Monday, January 5. Orientation will include an introduction to Dalhousie, workshops designed to help prepare you for university life, and opportunities to connect with your fellow students. for Winter Welcome Day.
Various pre-arrival infomation sessions are also planned for November and December. Visit the orientation webpage for details.

Winter 2026 welcome events
The International Centre (IC) is excited to welcome you to the winter 2026 semester with the following welcome events open to all international students. Events are free and will all be held in-person at the IC.
Nova Scotia ID and Social Insurance Number Clinic
January 6 from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
- Social Insurance Number (SIN): You need a SIN to work in Canada and complete your taxes. Note: you can .
- Nova Scotia (NS) ID:&²Ô²ú²õ±è;You may also want a Nova Scotia (NS) ID&²Ô²ú²õ±è;so you don’t have to carry your passport all the time.&²Ô²ú²õ±è;This service costs $17.70 to process. Please bring a debit or credit card to make the payment.
To receive a NS ID and SIN, make sure to bring all necessary documents, such as your passport, study permit, , proof of address, and a method to pay for the NS ID service fee.
International Community Social&²Ô²ú²õ±è;
January 7 from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. 
We're hosting an International Community Social to welcome all students and celebrate the new year and first day of class. Drop by to meet other international students and members of the international community. There will be coffee, donuts, and prizes to be won during the event.&²Ô²ú²õ±è;
Grow, Thrive, Succeed! Wellness Strategies for the Year Ahead
January 8 from&²Ô²ú²õ±è;5:00 - 6:30 p.m. 
Join this session to build confidence in understanding and supporting your wellness throughout the winter (and beyond). Designed and facilitated by Student Health & Wellness' Student Care Crew Team, you’ll leave this session with a personalized wellness support plan that is private and unique to you. Light refreshments also provided.

The International Centre will be hosting three virtual workshops to support you get started on your job hunt journey for winter.&²Ô²ú²õ±è;

Learn how to use AI wisely in your job search. We’ll highlight common pitfalls to avoid and show you practical ways to make AI work to your advantage when you are creating your resume, writing your cover letter, and preparing for an interview. &²Ô²ú²õ±è;
Networking Tips and Tricks (with&²Ô²ú²õ±è;Tajrian)
January 15 from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
