Anne Marie was a University Teaching Fellow in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at 抖淫视频, Faculty Associate for the Centre of Learning and Teaching, the President of the Atlantic Geoscience Society, and a 3M National Teaching Fellow,

CLT Faculty Associates are faculty members who have a passion for teaching and learning and who seek to take on an educational leadership role at Dalhousie.

Faculty Associates champion teaching and learning initiatives, projects, or interests that resonate both with them personally and with the specific disciplinary teaching needs of their Faculty or our wider university community. 听They may also engage in leading some CLT programs and services.听 In this way, Associates provide additional depth and connection to the work of the Centre and can be supported where necessary by the CLT team and other Faculty Associates.

CLT Faculty Associates provide a conduit between the central unit of the Centre for Learning and Teaching and the teaching and learning endeavours within their Faculty or beyond.听 As an informal advisory group, Associates are well-positioned to inform the work of CLT by conveying the teaching and learning needs of a Faculty to CLT, while CLT is able to share Centre activities with them to increase opportunities for other faculty to learn about CLT services and about institutional policies and procedures.

Faculty Associate Project(s): Focus on SoTL and has been a member of CLT grant committees and been a peer reviewer for DCUTL. She is connected with Marion Brown鈥檚 鈥楪rowing the Garden鈥� project in the Faculty of Health.

Other Teaching and Learning Interests: Dr. Rebecca Affoo is a Speech-Language Pathologist and an Assistant Professor in the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the Faculty of Health. She is passionate about the scholarship of teaching and learning and implementing evidence-based education.

Faculty Associate Project(s): His first project was the promotion of curriculum mapping through his self-designed 鈥楧aedalus鈥� program. Most recently he was the Chair of the SLEQ Questions Task Force.

Other Teaching and Learning Interests: Dr. Christian Blouin is an associate professor in the and in the . He is assisting Faculties, Schools and program directors to build curriculum maps. His work on curriculum mapping has given him the opportunity to work with a wide range of discipline, and help devise many plans to collect curricula information from a large number of instructors.

Marie-Soleil Beaudoin, PhD, Master of Educational Technology (she/her)

Current Role: Senior Instructor, Physiology & Biophysics

Faculty Associate Project(s): First-year students transition to university.

Other Teaching and Learning Interests: Dr. Marie-Soleil Beaudoin is a senior instructor in the department of Physiology & Biophysics. She also completed a Master in Educational Technology at UBC. Marie-Soleil teaches introductory human physiology classes as well as advanced human and exercise physiology seminars. Her pedagogy is centred around 听active learning and flipped classroom approaches. Marie-Soleil is interested in self-regulated learning (SRL) in both online and in-person learning environments and how SRL skills development can enhance the retention, success, and overall experience of first-year students, with a focus on underrepresented groups, such as first-generation, Indigenous, and African Nova Scotian students.听

Faculty Associate Project(s): As Dean of Law, she initiated different projects including annual teaching retreats and classroom re-designs in her Faculty.听 She taught the CLT studio course 鈥楾he First Fifteen Minutes鈥� in 2021. Also in 2021 she formed the Dalhousie Leadership in Teaching Excellence (D-LITE) with Anne Marie Ryan and Srini Sampalli (all 3M National Teaching Fellows) with the purpose of providing leadership opportunities for faculty who wanted to engage cross-institutionally in teaching and learning endeavours.

Marion Brown, PhD, RSW (she/her)

Current Role: Associate Dean Academic, Faculty of Health,听Associate Professor, School of Social Work

Faculty Associate since: 2022

Faculty Associate Project(s): As Associate Dean in the Faculty of Health she created the Growing the Garden Project. 听She also co-chaired the online learning framework working group with Suzanne Le-May Sheffield.

Other Teaching and Learning Interests: Marion Brown is Associate Professor at the School of Social Work and Associate Dean Academic in the Faculty of Health, responsible for strategic leadership and support for program and curriculum development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement for academic and scholarly innovation; initiatives related to the scholarship of teaching and learning including faculty development; and project lead for operationalization of university policy on Holistic Evaluation of Teaching. All of this she integrates into the Growing the Garden of Teaching & Learning in the Faculty of Health community of practice. She is the 2024 recipient of the Dalhousie Alumni Association Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Other Teaching and Learning Interests: Dr. Poitras is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Computer Science at 抖淫视频. He is a learning scientist for the Faculty's Computer Science Education Research cluster initiative. His work focuses on introductory programming skills acquisition and the role of self-regulation in problem solving with technology-rich learning environments.听

Raghav V. Sampangi, PhD

Faculty Associate Project(s): Most recently a co-lead for D-Lite Belong Cluster that has run workshop series, Raghav has long been interested in health and well-being of students and faculty. He led an initiative in the Faculty of Computer Science to support faculty to get started with inclusive classrooms (READI). He has worked with David Pilon and Janice MacInnis on the well-being pillar that bought faculty, staff and student well-being together.

Faculty Associate Project(s): Created a book club: Rest is Resistance which has become the Faculty Teaching and Well Being Community of Practice.

Other Teaching and Learning Interests: Laurel Schut is an Instructor at the College of Sustainability, teaching within the interdisciplinary Environment, Sustainability and Society program. She teaches undergraduate courses focused on food systems and sustainability, conflict management, and environmental decision making. Her service activities within the College include hosting an annual curriculum workshop, co-developing undergraduate sustainability certificate offerings, and holistic curriculum mapping for the Environment, Sustainability and Society program. With an interest in exploring the connections (and tensions) between faculty wellbeing and teaching effectiveness, Laurel鈥檚 contributions as a CLT Faculty Associate focus on teaching and wellbeing.

Current Role: Instructor and Biochemistry Teaching Lab Coordinator, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology

Faculty Associate Project(s): Promoting case-based learning in science and co-facilitating the SoTL Community of Practice with Kate Thompson.

Other Teaching and Learning Interests: In addition to his teaching endeavors in biochemical education, Shawn is also actively and collaboratively conducting educational research in the areas of case-based learning, students as partners, technology-informed pedagogy, and decolonization in science education. As a member of CLT faculty associates, Shawn is interested in supporting the center鈥檚 efforts in SoTL research development and communication, as well as fostering evidence-based teaching and learning practices in his home faculty, Medicine. Shawn is always passionate in chatting about teaching and learning related topics.
